Dentons merges with Ugandan law firm Kampala Associated Advocates

By Allan Cunningham | Africa Capital Digest October 3, 2017

Continuing with its Africa expansion strategy, global law firm Dentons is gaining a foothold in the Ugandan market by combining with Kampala Associated Advocates, the country’s largest law firm. The move is another plank in Dentons’ ambitions to be a pan-African law firm that reaches more of Africa than any of its competitors.

The combination of Dentons with 26-lawyer Kampala Associated Advocates is expected to boost both firms’ capabilities in several key business sectors and practices, including Banking and Finance, Communications, Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Energy, and Infrastructure.

“The proposed combination with Dentons…will enable us to maintain our deep connections in the local community while embracing and building upon the attributes of the firm that helped us become one of the elite in East Africa,” said KAA Managing Partner David Mpanga.

The planned combination needs to be ratified by both firms’ sets of partners, who will vote in the coming weeks. Once approved, the new unit will launch in February 2018.
